Some of our team attended this year’s Homelessness QLD Conference in Cairns this week. The stories shared, the challenges explored, and the collective passion in the room remind us why this work matters so deeply. Listening to people with lived experience grounded every conversation and reinforced the importance of compassion, collaboration, and action.

We’re returning to Townsville with fresh ideas and stronger connections to help us continue supporting families and individuals experiencing homelessness.

Wee Care Playgroup celebrated National Reconciliation Week with some fun activities. The children enjoyed moulding dough made from conditioner and cornflour as well as playing with the coloured rice. The message for NRW 2026 is "ALL IN" a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day!

A heartfelt thank you to Ash and Ray, owners of Golden Hour Social Studio for hosting their first pop-up market over the weekend featuring local vendors selling handmade goods, and a wonderful coffee van. Funds raised through a charity raffle were generously donated to Althea Projects.

🌿 National Reconciliation Week 🌿

This week (27 May – 3 June) we celebrate National Reconciliation Week. Althea Projects is proud to be 'All In" - listening, learning and taking action toward a more reconciled future.

As part of NRW we have re-designed our RAP shirts incorporating our RAP artwork "Together We Will Make It Right" by local artist Michelle Tyhuis. The artwork acknowledges the organisation’s beginnings, emerging from turbulent times, and signifies the ‘around-the-clock’ nature of the services Althea Projects provides, most notably through the Wee Care program. Together We Will Make It Right’ is a celebration of Althea Projects overall commitment to reconciliation with First Australians, and their real work with, and for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their families in Townsville. It is guided by principles of mutual respect, caring and sharing.

The team at Wee Care would like to welcome the community to join us for playgroup tomorrow Thursday 28th May where we will be celebrating National Reconciliation Week with stories, craft and morning tea from 9.30am to 11.30am at 9 First Street, Railway Estate.

EXCITED | Our CEO Paula and Wee Care Program Manager Kristy are feeling excited to have arrived in Cairns today to get ready to present at the Early Years Conference tomorrow.
It’s a privilege and honour to share the learnings, challenges and successes from the life-changing work of our Wee Care program, and the impact it continues to have for children and families across Townsville.
Every story shared is a reminder of the importance of early support, strong relationships, and community-led care in helping children thrive.
