From 13 April, we're looking to transition to a new process where LSL claims are submitted online through the Worker Portal.

We’ve streamlined this process to make lodging a claim quicker and easier for workers - no more printing, scanning or chasing forms.

To help you navigate this important change, we’ll be sharing:
🔹A step-by-step guide on the process
🔹A short video walkthrough
🔹Webinar sessions to help workers get started

If you have time, please hold off submitting any claims until 13 April so we can complete the transition smoothly.

More details, including links to these guides and Webinar dates, will be available soon. Stay tuned.

Did you know workers can search for organisations registered with the SA Portable Long Service Scheme on our website?

You can search to see if your current employer, or a prospective employer, is registered with the SAPLSL-CS scheme to ensure your years of service in the sector are being counted toward your long service leave entitlement. It takes just a moment and can make a big difference in making sure your service in the sector counts.

If you notice your employer is not registered and you think they should be, we encourage you to talk with them or reach out to our team to discuss eligibility requirements. Eligible employers are legally required to register and contribute to the scheme. This ensures your working entitlements are protected and you recognised for your long tenure in the industry.

Visit our website today, under the Resources tab, your see the Employer Search function.

Portable Long Service Leave has a strong track record in South Australia, first introduced in the construction industry in 1977 to support workers who move between employers.

Community services work is often shaped by short-term funding, contract changes and project-based roles. Under traditional long service leave rules, many workers would never reach continuous service with one employer — even after years in the sector.

Portable long service leave changes that.

Your service follows you across eligible employers, recognising your commitment to the industry and ensuring your time counts — wherever your career takes you.

Fact: In South Australia, long service leave is based on continuous service — not whether you’re full-time, part-time or casual.

If you’re an eligible casual worker and meet the service requirements, you accrue long service leave under the Scheme.

Your employment type doesn’t determine your entitlement; your time in the sector does.

If you’re ever unsure about how the Scheme applies to you, our team is here to help.

Since the introduction of the SA Portable Long Service Leave Scheme, we’ve welcomed many new workers into our community.

If you’re still getting familiar with how the Scheme works and why it was introduced, this short video provides a simple overview of how portable long service leave supports you throughout your career in community services.

We’re proud to be part of an initiative that recognises and protects the dedication of community services workers — the people who care for our communities every single day.

Starting a new job in the sector doesn’t mean starting your long service leave from scratch. Your service travels with you, building over time, so you can be rewarded for your commitment to the industry.

Because the work you do matters, and so does recognising it.

Setting up MFA just got easier 🔒

Thanks to feedback from our users, we’ve simplified the way Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is set up for the SA Portable Long Service Leave portals.

You can now complete the process using your mobile phone only — no computer required.

The updated step-by-step instructions are available in Toolkit #4 on our website:

If you’re planning to apply for long service leave in the next couple of months, you’ll need to submit your claim manually using the claim form available here: https://bit.ly/461waCY.

We’re currently transitioning existing long service leave entitlements from traditional arrangements into the SA Portable Long Service Leave Scheme. This work is expected to be completed in Q2 2026.

Once the transition is finalised, the claiming process will change and be actioned through the Worker Portal. We’ll share updates via our social media channels, and our website will be updated with the new instructions as soon as they’re available.

In the meantime, if you’d like guidance on how to apply, Webinar #7 is a helpful resource that walks through the current process: https://bit.ly/3NT8wSW.

With the recent introduction of the SA Portable Long Service Leave Scheme, the dedication and commitment of community services workers across South Australia are now being formally recognised.

Thousands of workers are already registered, meaning their service is being recorded and their long service leave is building — even if they move between employers in the sector.

This Scheme is designed to support the people who support our communities, ensuring your hard work counts over time and gives you access to well-deserved long service leave.

If your employer has not yet registered, we encourage you to talk to them about the scheme. Participation in the scheme is a legal requirement for eligible employers.

You can also check your balances on the Worker Portal and stay informed: https://bit.ly/4hzvbyD.

Thank you for the important work you do every day.

You may have noticed that Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is required when accessing your SA Portable Long Service Leave Portal account.

MFA is an important security feature that helps protect your personal information and keep your data safe. It’s now common practice across many online services and adds an extra layer of protection beyond just a password.

If you haven’t used MFA before, don’t worry, we’ve created a simple step-by-step guide to help you through the process.

To set up MFA, you’ll need to download the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and have access to it each time you log in to the portal. If you already use Google Authenticator, that will also work.

🔒View the MFA setup guide here under Toolkit #4: https://bit.ly/4afEulH.

We’ve received a number of questions from workers about accessing the Worker Portal, so here’s a helpful clarification.

When you’re invited to access the Worker Portal, you’ll receive an email with a secure login link. For security reasons, this link is time-limited and will expire after 48 hours if it isn’t used.

If your link has expired, you will need to request a new one from the SA Portable Long Service Leave team directly. You can do this by calling or emailing our Customer Service team: https://bit.ly/49JznZf.

Your employer doesn’t manage Worker Portal login access, so the quickest way to regain access is to contact us directly.

Once logged in, you’ll be able to view your details, check your balance, and manage your long service leave information securely.
