Lutheran Disability Services Lutheran Disability Services (LDS) was formed in 1986 to provide a home for five people living with disability.

We are a registered NDIS provider specialising in Supported Independent Living (SIL), In Home Supports, Community Participation and Behaviour Support to over 85 clients in South Australia. Their families came together to lease Shimron House in Unley … and LDS was born. Throughout the intervening years, LDS has grown, as more and more clients and families want to experience the unique service provided by the team within a Christian, high-moral environment where our clients are at the centre of everything we do. We work closely with clients’ families, advocates and nominees through every stage of LDS supports. We are committed to consultation, communication and partnership with all those we serve. Today LDS provides services for over 75 people living with disability through independent individually living, specialist disability accommodation and community participation programs. LDS is not just a service provider; we believe in our clients, and we care about them.

Today is a great reminder to start a conversation that could make a real difference.

Asking "Are you OK?" can help someone feel seen, heard, and supported. While R U OK? Day encourages us to check in with the people around us, meaningful conversations shouldn't be limited to just one day of the year. Any day is the right day to reach out.

Whether it's a colleague, friend, family member, or neighbour, taking a moment to genuinely ask and listen can have a lasting impact.

You don't need to have all the answers. Sometimes, simply being there is enough.

💛 Ask.
💛 Listen.
💛 Support.
💛 Check in.

Because a conversation can change a life, and it's never the wrong day to ask, "Are you OK?"

🎉 Happy 35th Birthday, Alex! 🎉

Alex is believed to be the oldest known person living with CHOPS syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition that affects growth, development and multiple body systems. Reaching this milestone is a truly remarkable achievement.

We recently sat down with Alex to talk about his milestone birthday, his favourite hobbies, and what he enjoys most about life at home.

🎄Christmas has always been a special time at LDS.

Looking back through the archives, it's clear that bringing people together to celebrate, connect and create memories has been part of our story from the very beginning.

While the decorations may have changed over the years, the spirit of community remains the same. Swipe through for a few Christmas moments from years gone by ❤️

📰 Before emails and socials… there was this

This is one of the very first LDS newsletters - Amandus Newsletter, April 1985 (Issue No. 1).

Inside are updates, stories, and a glimpse into what those early days looked like and what the future might hold.
(It seems the name Shimron was up for reconsideration at one point… we’re glad it stayed 👀)

Some things have changed over the years, but the sense of community hasn’t. Swipe through for a look.

💛 From Then to Now
Some of the people we support today have been part of the LDS community for decades. Stephen is one of those people.

Over the years, Stephen has built friendships, shared experiences, and created a life rich in connection and community.
Pictured here is Stephen circa 1991 - and still part of the LDS community today!
