located in City of Marion and City of Holdfast Bay, South Australia. The Sturt River corridor contains the only remaining vestiges of the original native woodland forests of this part of the Adelaide Plains. These open spaces with their remnant native plants, birds and animals, provide us with a sense of connection to a unique and valued place, comprising much of the history, identity and amenity
of the Sturt River (also called Warripiri by the Kaurna people). The corridor around the creek line, while much altered, presents a sanctuary for the community of people, plants and animals who now live here. It provides us with a green space to regularly enjoy nature in order to restore ourselves and become happier, healthier people. It is also a haven of local biodiversity in an increasingly built up urban landscape. It represents the best of the few remaining opportunities we have to understand how to restore, enhance and protect areas of local habitat for native insects, birds and animals so that they can continue to live among us. As a shared, community open space it is meaningful and important in the lives of residents and visitors alike. However modified, this remains a living place; worthy of our care, respect and stewardship for the unique values of habitat and heritage that it represents to us and those who will come after us. Friends of Sturt River Landcare was set up in 2014 to care for the lower part of the Sturt River, particular those areas of the Adelaide plains not currently covered by the Warriparinga Wetlands friends group. The friends aim to provide on-going stewardship for the Sturt River corridor and its surrounding parks and reserves. As a not-for-profit organisation the aims of the group are set within its Constitution. Membership is open to all members of the public who agree with the aims of the organisation and its objects. To maintain, restore and re-establish native biodiversity within the Sturt River corridor, surrounding parks and reserves.
2. To create a community of people who are willing and able to work together to care for and conserve this area in perpetuity. These aims to be carried out for the benefit and enjoyment of residents and visitors alike, both now and into the future.
