Zahra Foundation Australia

Zahra Foundation Australia Zahra Foundation Australia was founded by Arman, Atena and Anita Abrahimzadeh in collaboration with the South Australian domestic violence sector.

The Zahra Foundation is a not-for-profit that supports women impacted by domestic abuse, providing free programs, services, education and grants promoting economic well-being and empowering participants to rebuild their life. The foundation aims to address the financial abuse and disadvantage often experienced by women and children affected by domestic and family violence. We do this by providing

small grants and tailored programs that create pathways for women and children into further education or employment which build a woman's capacity to live free from violence and abuse.

Financial insecurity is one of the biggest barriers to leaving an abusive relationship.

For many women, leaving is not just about finding safety. It can also mean trying to pay rent, feed children, manage debt, access transport, and rebuild stability.

This is why economic empowerment matters.

At the Zahra Foundation, we support women taking the next steps to rebuild their lives through financial counselling, education, and pathways to employment.

Workplaces and communities also play an important role. Building awareness and creating safe, supportive environments can make a real difference in the choices available to women.

If you’re able to, share this post to help raise awareness. https://zahrafoundation.org.au/dv-prevention-month-26

This National Volunteer Week, we want to say thank you to every volunteer who supports Zahra Foundation. 💜

From those who regularly give their time in our office, to the people who put their hand up to help at events, fundraising activities and community programs, thank you.

Our volunteers help create welcoming spaces, strengthen our programs and remind the women we support that there is a community who cares deeply about them and their future.

Thank you for your time, compassion and willingness to stand alongside women rebuilding their lives after domestic and financial abuse. We are incredibly grateful for all that you do.

Thank you also to Volunteering SA&NT for supporting so many organisations with resources and networking opportunities that help strengthen the volunteering community here in South Australia.

Port Lincoln Times have shared an article highlighting the upcoming Changemaker Event in Port Lincoln, presented in partnership with Yarredi Services.

This important community event will feature Councillor Arman Abrahimzadeh OAM and Sharyn Potts as keynote speakers, sharing their lived experience, insights and advocacy in addressing family and domestic violence.

They will then join a panel discussion alongside Rob Donaldson, Chair of Community Bank Port Lincoln, and Robyn Roswell, Councillor for the City of Port Lincoln Council, exploring the role our community can play in creating safer futures for women and families across the region.

We’re looking forward to this powerful event bringing community members, leaders and organisations together at The Nautilus Arts Centre to become changemakers and continue the conversation around prevention, recovery and support for those impacted by family and domestic violence.

More than 60% of domestic and family violence cases involve financial abuse.

Financial abuse can look like controlling access to money, creating debt, restricting someone’s ability to work or study, or making them financially dependent.

It’s one of the key reasons many women feel unable to leave unsafe situations, and why recovery often continues long after the abuse ends.

At the Zahra Foundation, we support women taking the next steps to rebuild their lives through financial counselling, education, and pathways to employment. We see every day how important financial independence is for long-term safety and recovery.

Domestic and family violence impacts workplaces and communities across Australia. Raising awareness and understanding the signs is an important place to start.

1 in 6 women have experienced physical or sexual violence by a current or former partner.

It’s a confronting stat, but it’s the reality for too many women. Throughout May, we’ll be sharing more about what this looks like and how people can help raise awareness.

Domestic and family violence isn’t always visible. It often includes coercive control, which sits behind many forms of abuse. It’s a pattern of behaviours used to dominate, restrict and undermine a person’s independence, limiting autonomy, reducing safety and creating ongoing fear.

At the Zahra Foundation, we support women taking the next steps to rebuild their lives through financial counselling, education, and pathways to employment. We see every day how important financial independence is for long-term safety.

If you’re able to, share this post or take a moment to learn more this May.

Today marks the first day of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

This month is an opportunity to raise awareness, start conversations, and recognise the role we all play in preventing domestic and family violence.

At the Zahra Foundation, we support women impacted by domestic and financial abuse to rebuild their lives through financial counselling, education, and pathways to employment. We know that economic empowerment is not just part of recovery, it is targeted prevention.

Throughout May, we’ll be sharing information you can pass on, opportunities to support our work, and starting conversations about the role we all play in prevention.

You can be part of this by sharing our posts, starting conversations in your workplace or community, or visiting our website to learn more.

Across Australia, communities are coming together to say no more to violence against women.

Our co-founder, Councillor Arman Abrahimzadeh OAM, will be joining many South Australian advocates speaking at the upcoming rally.

If you want to see real change in South Australia and across the country, this is an opportunity to be part of it. To stand together, to listen, and to call for stronger action to support women and end violence.

These moments of collective action matter. When communities come together, voices are heard and change becomes possible.

We encourage you to join us and stand alongside others calling for a safer future for women.
