SCAI helps prevent trafficking and unnecessary separation of vulnerable children from families in Nepal, through empowering them week education, training and livelihood development support. SCAI aims to provide children with a safe, loving, family environment where they have the opportunity to reach their full potential, free from discrimination, violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation and poverty.

We do this through three core strategies:

1) Keeping kids with their families -
Education Scholarship Programs for over 400 children who are at risk of being sold to traffickers, used for labour or simply sent by their families to orphanages or other types of institutions in the hope of a better life and education.

2) Re-integrating children with their families -
We aim to re-connect children who may have been trafficked or willingly sent away by their families to orphanages in Kathmandu with their families and, where possible, re-integrate them and place them under our one of our Education Scholarship Programs.

3) Home care for orphaned or abandoned children -
Where children have been orphaned or abandoned and have no relatives that can care for them, we provide children with a safe, loving, home environment, a good education and a range of facilities and opportunities for their personal development at our home, Sunrise Orphanage

Sustainability
Whilst providing basic care such as food, education, medical care and clothing, SCAI are committed to developing the skills of the staff and children of Sunrise Orphanage to empower them to become employable and self-sufficient in the long term. The construction of โ€œSunrise Childrenโ€™s Villageโ€ is the next major step towards establishing self-sufficiency and sustainability, and all proceeds from our next major fundraising initiative will go towards this project.

Our greatest achievement isn't how long a child stays with us. It's helping them safely return to their families. โœจ

Our nine children are saying goodbye to Sunrise Home and taking a beautiful step towards their family. And among them are these three siblings.

Their father came to take them home. And suddenly, a farewell became a reunion. There were tears for the memories. Smiles for what lies ahead. And hugs that said more than words ever could. ๐Ÿ’›

For SCAI, this is the heart of our work: to protect vulnerable children, strengthen families and help children return to safe and nurturing family environments whenever possible.

And for everyone who supports SCAI, this moment belongs to you too. Your support helps turn vulnerability into opportunity, separation into reunion, and hope into a future. Because our goal is never simply to care for a child at Sunrise Home. Our goal is to help them find their way home. Thank you for walking this journey with us.๐Ÿ™

Strengthening compliance and child welfare standards

Continuous training is essential to maintaining high standards in our work. Recently, our team in Nepal, together with our NGO partners, SO Nepal and RUDEC Nepal, participated in training on Child Protection, Anti-Money Laundering, and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML-CFT).

The session was facilitated by expert trainers from the National Child Rights Council (NCRC) and the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens (MoWCSC), providing valuable guidance on current safeguarding and compliance requirements.

Thank you to the trainers and all participants for their time and commitment to ensuring our work remains transparent, accountable, and focused on protecting children.

The young man you see here, Bikal, holds a very unique place in our historyโ€”he was the very first child to walk through the doors of Sunrise Home 21 years ago. ๐Ÿก

No matter where life takes our kids or which path they choose to walk as adults, they are always a part of our story. It is incredibly moving to see our past residents carry a lasting gratitude for the love, care, and foundation they received during their time with us.

Our doors and our hearts remain open, and we are always so happy to welcome our children back home whenever they visit. Once part of the Sunrise family, always part of the Sunrise family. ๐Ÿ’›

A day out is more than just fun, it's an opportunity for children to explore, build friendships, boost their confidence, and simply enjoy being children.

At Sunrise Home, we believe every child deserves joyful experiences that create lasting memories and support their healthy growth and well-being.

Some dreams refuse to give up. โœจ

Laxmi lost both of her parents when she was very young. With her three elder sisters married, a brother living with speech and learning impairments, and only a small piece of land to support the family, her future seemed uncertain.

Laxmi also lives with some health issues, requiring regular medication. Yet every day, she walked nearly an hour to school, determined not to let her circumstances define her future.

Through SCAI's Education Scholarship Program, Laxmi received the support she needed to stay in school and continue pursuing her goals. ๐Ÿ’›

Her perseverance paid off. In 2024, she passed the Secondary Education Exam (SEE) with First Division, achieving an impressive 74%.

Today, she is studying Science in Year 12 in Kathmandu and dreams of completing a Bachelor of Nursing, so she can one day care for others with the same compassion and support that helped change her own life.๐Ÿ“š๏ธ

Every scholarship is more than support for a child's education. It's an opportunity to overcome hardship, pursue dreams, and build a brighter future.

A small opportunity can transform an entire family's future. โœจ

For years, Dawa Yangjin carried the weight of providing for a family of eight. Married at a young age, she cared for her children while her husband struggled with poor health. With only a small piece of land, making ends meet was a daily challenge.

The financial hardship was so severe that her eldest son had to leave school in Grade 10, marry early, and work as a farm labourer to help support the family. Even then, life remained uncertain.

In 2018, hope arrived. ๐Ÿ’›

When her son, Sangdorje, received an SCAI Education Scholarship, Dawa was also given the opportunity to join SCAI's Livelihood Development Programme. Through training in farming and entrepreneurship, she gained the skills and confidence to start her own business. She started from goats with a loan of just NPR 10,000 from a SCAI-supported savings group.

Today, Dawa earns around NPR 200,000 each year, providing stability, dignity, and new opportunities for her family.

When we invest in parents, we strengthen families. When families become self-reliant, children have the chance to stay in school and build brighter futures. ๐ŸŒฑ

Did you know?

Reintegration begins the moment a child arrives at Sunrise Home.

When a child's family has been traced, our work doesn't end, it begins. Our team regularly visits parents, relatives, and caregivers, providing counselling, assessing the home environment, and working alongside families to help prepare for a safe return home.

These visits help rebuild relationships, address challenges, and strengthen the support children need to thrive with their families. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

Because every child deserves more than temporary careโ€”they deserve the opportunity to grow up in a safe, loving family.

At SCAI, reintegration isn't a single event. It's a carefully planned journey that gives children the best chance of returning home for good. ๐Ÿ’›

When opportunity meets determination, lives change. โœจ

At just five years old, Pinky lost her father in the 2015 earthquake. Left to raise six children alone, her mother struggled to provide even the basics. Two of Pinky's older brothers had to leave school to work as daily labourers, and Pinky herself was at risk of dropping out because her family couldn't afford essential school supplies.

Everything changed in 2018 when Pinky joined SCAI's Education Scholarship Programme. ๐Ÿ“š๏ธ

With the support she received, Pinky stayed in school, regained her confidence, and began to thrive.

Today, she has achieved First Division in both Class 9 and Class 10 and recently secured third position in the class in her first-term exams. ๐Ÿ’›

Beyond the classroom, Pinky loves singing, enjoys helping others, and dreams of becoming a teacherโ€”so she can inspire the next generation just as others believed in her.

Every scholarship is more than support for a child's education. It's an investment in hope, resilience, and a brighter future. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿ“š

Meet the voice behind our mission ๐Ÿ’›

"Without basic needs such as food, shelter, clothing, healthcare and a safe, nurturing home where children feel loved and that they belong, it is very difficult for them to attend school regularly, concentrate on their studies, or reach their full potential.

When families are under constant financial pressure, stress can affect every part of family life and place children at much greater risk of neglect, exploitation, trafficking, or being separated from those who love them.

That's why SCAI's work goes far beyond education scholarships. Through livelihood support, counselling, family visits, and community partnerships, we help strengthen families so children can grow up safe, supported, and surrounded by opportunity."
