Success Story: Media Educator Training in Wiener Neustadt – BonJour! Project
On 10 June 2025, an intensive and highly successful training course for media educators took place in Wiener Neustadt as part of the BonJour! Project, which aims to strengthen media literacy among adults aged 55 and above.
The course was based on the Flipped Learning 3.0 approach and combined self-directed online learning with interactive face-to-face sessions. Participants prepared through a low-threshold multimedia platform, specially developed to meet the needs of adult learners working with older adults.
The training focused on five key modules:
✅ Adult Learning and Andragogy
✅ Media Literacy Essentials
✅ Digital Storytelling with Older Adults
✅ Tools & Didactics for Teaching
✅ Assessment and Empowerment
Delivered over a total of 25 hours (20 hours online and 5 hours in-person), the course provided both theoretical insight and practical application. All participants were qualified educators in either school education or adult education.
The training was conducted by two leading experts:
Peter Mazohl, President of EBI/EIE and a recognised specialist in Flipped Learning 3.0 and adult education,
Harald Makl, an experienced adult educator and media expert.
Their combined expertise ensured a high-quality, hands-on learning experience, grounded in international standards and aligned with the DigComp 2.2 framework. Participants explored inclusive educational tools, digital storytelling methods, and modern approaches to learner-centred assessment.
Learning outcomes were evaluated through action research, and successful participants received a micro-credential-based certificate, verifying their newly acquired skills and competencies.
The feedback was overwhelmingly positive – confirming the practical relevance, accessibility, and impact of the training. It not only strengthened participants’ media and digital skills but also contributed to closing the intergenerational digital divide by preparing educators to better support older adults in navigating today’s information society.
