There is no shortage of news about AI. What is harder to find is information that speaks directly to the realities of nonprofit work.

That is why we started the AI4NGO newsletter 📧

Each edition brings together:
→ Practical AI use cases for nonprofits
→ Important questions about ethics, inclusion and accountability
→ New tools, learning resources and opportunities
→ Ideas and stories worth discussing across the sector

Our goal is simple: to help nonprofits approach AI with greater confidence, curiosity and care.

Today we want to shed some light on what we've been doing behind the scenes, namely, our collaboration with CONCORDIA Social Projects 👀

CONCORDIA is an NGO operating across 7 Eastern European countries, supporting more than 21,000 children in generational poverty through a network of local offices, social workers and partner NGOs.

When we started, CONCORDIA had no AI policy, no governance structure, and no systematic training in place. At the same time, staff were already experimenting with AI tools, raising important questions around ethics, data protection, and responsible use when working with vulnerable children.

Instead of rushing into tools, we focused on building the right foundation first.

Together, we:
🔹 Established a cross-departmental AI Steering Group to guide strategy and governance
🔹 Conducted an organization-wide AI readiness assessment
🔹 Co-created and approved a CONCORDIA AI Use Policy (now being translated into multiple languages)
🔹 Enrolled almost 90 staff members in EU AI Act–compliant AI literacy training
🔹 Launched a train-the-trainer program through C O N C O R D I A Academia to scale learning across countries
🔹 Identified and prioritized AI use cases for operations, programs, and communications
🔹 Initiated the implementation of a self-hosted AI infrastructure to ensure data sovereignty and child protection

This project reinforces something we strongly believe at AI4NGO:
Responsible AI adoption in nonprofits is not about choosing between efficiency and ethics. It’s about designing systems where productivity and mission impact strengthen each other.

We’re excited to continue this journey with CONCORDIA as new pilots move into testing and implementation.

💡 If your organization is navigating similar questions around AI governance, literacy, or responsible adoption, we’d love to connect.

Since 2 August, the transparency rules apply to every organisation in the EU. No exemption for nonprofits.

Chatbots must say they’re AI. AI-drafted advocacy needs a label — unless a human reviewed it and takes responsibility. Synthetic campaign imagery must be marked.

The first step isn’t a policy retreat. It’s a count: one week, four steps, in our new article.

The EU's AI rules arrived on Saturday. Did your NGO notice?

Since 2 August, the transparency rules apply to every organisation in the EU. No exemption for nonprofits.

Chatbots must say they're AI. AI-drafted advocacy needs a label — unless a human reviewed it and takes responsibility. Synthetic campaign imagery must be marked.

The first step isn't a policy retreat. It's a count: one week, four steps, in our new article.

Don't panic. Don't relax either. Count.

Everyone’s talking about AI skills.

We’re thinking about human skills.

Because while AI can help us write, analyse and organise information, it can’t replace empathy, critical thinking, good judgement or meaningful human connection.

As AI becomes part of our everyday work, these skills matter more than ever.

We’ve shared our thoughts in a new article (link in bio) 👆

✨ We’d love to hear from you: what’s one human skill you’ll always value, no matter how AI evolves?

It's happening today!

Join us at 5 PM CEST for an event bringing together Dr Ley Muller and Beckett LeClair - experts in AI governance, digital rights, and LGBTQ+ advocacy - for a conversation on what it takes to build technology that is more inclusive.

Together, we'll explore:
• Why LGBTQ+ communities experience AI differently
• What inclusive AI looks like in practice
• How nonprofits, advocates, and technologists can help shape more equitable systems

🌈 AI is shaping more and more of our daily lives, but it doesn’t affect everyone equally.

For LGBTQ+ communities, AI can create new opportunities, but it can also reinforce bias, exclusion, and unequal access. So how do we build technology that truly works for everyone?

We’re excited to introduce the speakers joining us for Pride in the Age of AI: Building Inclusive Technology for LGBTQ+ Communities:

💜 Dr Ley Muller – Deputy Chair of Q***r World and CEO of Values-driven AI, working to help organizations build AI that reflects their values.

💜 Beckett LeClair – Head of Technology at 5Rights (5Rights Foundation), advocating for a digital world that respects the rights of every child and young person.

Together, we’ll explore what inclusive AI really means, why LGBTQ+ voices need to be part of shaping it, and what nonprofits, technologists, and advocates can do to create fairer systems.

Who gets to shape AI? And who gets left out of the conversation?

The answers matter—especially for LGBTQ+ communities, whose experiences are too often overlooked in the design, development, and governance of AI systems.

That's why we're excited to welcome two brilliant speakers to Pride in the Age of AI: Building Inclusive Technology for LGBTQ+ Communities.

💜 Dr Ley Muller will explore how organizations can build AI that is grounded in human values, drawing on her work in AI governance, bias evaluation, and responsible innovation.

💜 Beckett LeClair will bring the perspective of digital rights and youth advocacy, sharing insights from 5Rights on creating technology that works for everyone—including LGBTQ+ young people.

Together, we'll explore questions like:
• Why do q***r communities experience AI differently?
• Where do today's systems fall short?
• And what would more inclusive AI actually look like?

🗓️ 29 June | 17:00 CEST
📍 Online & free to attend

Register here: https://www.ai4ngo.org/events/pride-in-the-age-of-ai

We hope you'll join us for the conversation.
