Why read a book about soil and architecture?

One reason is tunnels, co-host Ali Abunimah said during an interview with Eyal Weizman, author of Ungrounding: The Architecture of Genocide, on The Electronic Intifada Livestream for 27 August.

Weizman is the founder and director of Forensic Architecture and a professor of Spatial and Visual Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London.

Weizman acknowledged that the subjects he examines, such as “soil compositions or architectural details,” are “a bit nerdy.”

“I’m looking at a micro-materialization of politics,” he said. He uses that to examine “the great long duration of the history of colonialism” and “tell maybe a familiar story in a different way.”

Different types of soil converge in complex ways in Gaza. Palestinians developed sophisticated indigenous knowledge to build wells. Resistance fighters drew on that knowledge to construct tunnels vital to their operations.

Those tunnels “allowed the resistance the ability to move around to plant explosives on tanks, all the things that our colleague Jon Elmer showed us,” Abunimah said.

Für die Fans von Beitar wurden 900 Eintrittskarten reserviert. Es ist daher davon auszugehen, dass zahlreiche Anhänger des Vereins nach Wien und in den Bezirk Favoriten reisen werden.

Warum informieren wir Sie darüber?

Von den Fans Beitar Jerusalems geht ein erhebliches Sicherheitsrisiko aus. Es handelt sich nicht um einen friedlichen Fanverband, sondern um gewaltbereite und rabiate israelische Nationalisten – viele von ihnen Soldaten „im Kriegseinsatz“ in Gaza. Diese Leute kommen nach Österreich zu einem Zeitpunkt, wo seit Jahren straflos ein Völkermord an den Palästinensern verübt wird, der zionistisch-nationalistische Wahn auf einem Höhepunkt ist und Gewalt gegen Andersdenkende auf der Tagesordnung.

Meiden Sie deshalb um die Zeit des Spiels am 13. August die Gegend um die Generali Arena.

Beitar Jerusalem gilt seit Jahren als der wohl umstrittenste Fußballverein Israels. Die Ultra-Fans von Beitar sind für schwere Gewalt und Übergriffe sowie ihren Rassismus bekannt. Zu ihren Parolen gehören unter anderem „Tod den Arabern“und „Mögen eure Dörfer brennen“.
