Edurad - Educational Responses to Extremism This partnership project between five European countries was created in order to develop educational

This partnership project between five European countries (Austria, Cyprus, Germany, Netherlands, and Ireland) was created in order to develop educational responses to the question of extremism and to better understand what “preventing radicalisation and extremism” means in educational settings in different European countries. It will map the different ways in which extremism and radicalisation ar

e understood in these different national contexts, and will describe how these terms are understood in different educational contexts and the kinds of pedagogical approaches that different countries have developed. Its aim is to create a network for the exchange of educational ideas and pedagogical responses to extremism and radicalisation.

On this special occasion EDURAD and Center for Social Innovation - CSI had the opportunity to visit the Agia Varvara Regional High School in Cyprus for an interactive workshop on cultivating critical thinking and critical dialogue. During the visit, the teachers got the chance to explore various activities designed by the project partnership and to engage in meaningful discussions on how critical thought might help enrich their day-to-day professional practice.

EDURAD's Webinar welcomes, Gert Biesta (The University of Edinburgh/Maynooth University) with his talk "Extremism and the Question of Education."

"Extremism is a real concern for society and also a real concern for education. The question is what it would mean to engage with it in an educational way, one that is proper to education's own integrity, rather than to think that with the right, effective strategies, education can solve society's problem."

Bio: Dr. Gert Biesta is a Professor of Public Education at the Centre for Public Education and Pedagogy, Maynooth University, Ireland, and Professor of Educational Theory and Pedagogy at Moray House School of Education and Sport, The University of Edinburgh, UK. He holds Visiting Professorships at the UiA - University of Agder, Norway, and University of the Arts Helsinki, Finland.
