ANGUILLA ADVANCES ONE STEP CLOSER TO IMPLEMENTING THE OECS GCCA+ ILM PROJECT BY HOSTING A CLARIFICATION MEETING WITH STAKEHOLDERS.
On Thursday 7th March 2024 The project team and representatives of the OECS Commission met with local contractors to discuss the procurement for the “Works for the installation of Biofiltration Water System in The Valley, Anguilla”. The meeting was held at the conference room of the Ministry of Infrastructure Communications Utilities Housing and Tourism (MICUHT).
The Project Focal Point, Mr. Dallen Connor, welcomed all stakeholders to the meeting and provided insight into the purpose of the meeting. Following this, Mr. Shaynis Connor- the Alternate Focal Point, provided a brief overview of the project site and the key challenges that the intervention has been developed to address. He indicated that this component of the project aims to improve the management of storm water runoff along The Queen Elizabeth Avenue bordering the Valley Bottom. It will use green infrastructure to build localized farmers’ resiliency to climate induced drought and flooding. He also emphasized that this aspect of the project is critical in achieving sustainable land management and providing food security for all.
Contractors were also provided with a detailed overview of the European Union ‘procurement process’ used for the project, by Ms. Joanna Rosemond- Procurement Officer of the OECS. This was followed by a presentation on the ‘site intervention’ by Mr. Bernard Nation of EnviroPlus Consulting Inc. These sessions were quite thought-provoking and interactive as contractors shared their views and sought clarity where applicable. The meeting concluded with the closing remarks being presented by Mr. Cornelius Isaac- ILM Project Coordinator- OECS. Stakeholders visited the site earmarked for this aspect of the project- The Queen Elizabeth Avenue.
WHAT IS THIS PROJECT ABOUT?
The project titled, “Reversing land degradation through innovative technologies and integrated land management’ is funded by the European Union through the OECS- ILM). This multifaceted project is geared towards improving food and livelihood security, minimizing, minimizing environmental impacts, reducing disaster risks, enhancing agroecosystems, and building resiliency to a changing climate for all residents of Anguilla. The Project is led by the Department of Natural Resources, (DNaR) in collaboration with the Department of Physical Planning, and the Ministry of Infrastructure Communications Utilities Housing and Tourism (MICUHT). The team is optimistic that the project advancement is in keeping with the Project Implementation Framework.
