We are deeply concerned over the reported arrest and disappearance of Afghan students from The University of Lahore — Abdul Razzaq Umar, Muhammad Haroon, and Ahmad, students of 2nd Semester BSCS — who were reportedly detained by Pakistani police in Faizabad, Islamabad while on their way to the embassy regarding a visa matter. Since their arrest, their whereabouts remain unknown.
These students came to Pakistan through official educational pathways and scholarships with the sole purpose of pursuing higher education and building a better future. The continued arrests, deportations, and mistreatment of Afghan students create fear, uncertainty, and psychological distress among thousands of young Afghans striving for education and stability.
We respectfully call upon the concerned Pakistani authorities, law enforcement agencies, educational institutions, and relevant diplomatic offices to urgently clarify their whereabouts and ensure their immediate and safe release. We also urge all stakeholders to facilitate a peaceful, secure, and supportive environment for Afghan students so they may continue and complete their education without fear or harassment.
Education must never become a source of fear. Students deserve protection, dignity, and the opportunity to pursue knowledge in peace.
