A year ago, Herat was devastated by an earthquake that killed nearly 2,000 people and left survivors struggling with emotional trauma. Many are now facing serious mental health issues (ongoing studies).

In our article, “The Impact of the 2023 Earthquakes on the Afghan Health-care System,” published in The Lancet, we examined how this disaster has further weakened Afghanistan’s already fragile health system. The paper highlighted the need for mental health services and the lack of resources to meet this demand.
