Every story has the power to spark curiosity, inspire new ideas and take young readers somewhere new. As part of our “Read. Dream. Create.” campaign, we visited the American Academy for Girls in Dubai for an interactive reading session designed to bring stories to life and encourage students to explore, imagine and discover through books.

The experience continued with a range of fun activities that made reading more engaging and encouraged students to connect with books in a meaningful way. By creating positive experiences around stories, we hope to nurture a genuine love of reading from an early age, one that fuels imagination, inspires dreams and grows with every new book.

كلّ حكاية نقرؤها تفتح نافذة على عالم، وتترك في خيالنا مساحة لحلم جديد. بهذه الروح، قمنا بزيارة الأكاديمية الأمريكية للبنات في دبي، حيث اصطحبنا الطالبات في رحلة بين الكلمات والحكايات، من خلال جلسة قرائية ضمن حملة "اقرأ. احلم. ابتكر"، لتكون صفحات الكتب بداية للاكتشاف، وفرصة لرؤية العالم بعيون أكثر فضولاً.

وتواصلت الرحلة مع فعاليات ترفيهية جمعت متعة القراءة وبهجة المشاركة، لتشجيع الطالبات على الاقتراب من الكتب وبناء علاقة محبّة معها. فحين ترتبط الحكاية بلحظة جميلة، يصبح الرجوع إلى الكتاب شوقاً إلى تجربة جديدة، وهذا ما نسعى إلى غرسه لدى القارئات الصغيرات: أن يجدن في القراءة متعة ترافقهن، وخيالاً يُلهم أحلامهن، وأفكاراً تنمو معهن.

We were delighted to participate in the 26th edition of the Sharjah International Narrator Forum, held under the theme “Tales of Friends.”

Marwa Al Aqroubi, President of the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY), discussed the Board’s role in fostering connections among authors, illustrators, and publishers to produce high-quality joint publications. These efforts are supported by various
initiatives, most notably:

“Books – Made in the UAE”
“Kharareef with a New Vision”

The session also highlighted Khareerifat Majeerifa, a collection of Emirati folktales (kharareef) retold in a contemporary style and published by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage. The book serves as a compelling example of how friendships can inspire stories, and how stories can, in turn, forge friendships.

سعدنا بالمشاركة في الدورة 26 من ملتقى الشارقة الدولي للراوي التي تقام تحت شعار "حكايات الأصدقاء" حيث تحدثت مروة العقروبي، رئيسة المجلس الإماراتي لكتب اليافعين، عن دور المجلس في بناء الصداقات بين المؤلفين، والرسامين، والناشرين، للتعاون في تنفيذ مشاريع إبداعية وتقديم إصدارات نوعية مشتركة، وذلك من خلال مبادراته المختلفة وفي مقدمتها مشروع "كتب - صنعت في الإمارات" و"الخراريف برؤية جديدة".

واحتفت الجلسة التي شاركت فيها رئيسة المجلس بكتاب "خريريفة مجيريفة" الذي يتضمن مجموعة من الخراريف الإماراتية المكتوبة بأسلوب معاصر، والذي أصدره معهد الشارقة للتراث، وشكّل مثالاً واضحاً على دور الأصدقاء في صناعة الحكايات، وكذلك دور الحكايات في صناعة الأصدقاء.

Did you know?

For decades, the IBBY World Congress has brought together the global children’s and young adult literature community, travelling between cities and countries across the world. Yet, it has never been hosted in an Arab country.

In 2030, that changes.

Sharjah will become the first Arab city to host this global gathering, opening its doors to writers, illustrators, publishers, researchers and children’s literature professionals from around the world.

A milestone that reflects Sharjah’s longstanding role in placing books, culture and children’s literature at the centre of international exchange, and its continued journey of bringing the world together through knowledge, creativity and stories.

For the Arab world, it is more than a first. It is a new chapter in the global story of children’s and young adult literature.

هل كنتم تعلمون؟

على مدى عقود، جمع مؤتمر المجلس الدولي لكتب اليافعين مجتمع أدب الطفل واليافعين من مختلف أنحاء العالم، متنقلاً بين مدن ودول عديدة. ومع ذلك، لم يُستضف المؤتمر من قبل في أي دولة عربية.

في عام 2030، سيتغيّر ذلك.

ستكون الشارقة أول مدينة عربية تستضيف هذا الحدث العالمي، وتفتح أبوابها أمام الكتّاب والرسامين والناشرين والباحثين والمتخصصين في أدب الطفل واليافعين من مختلف أنحاء العالم.

محطة تعكس دور الشارقة الممتد في جعل الكتاب والثقافة وأدب الطفل جسراً للتواصل الدولي، ومواصلة مسيرتها في جمع العالم حول المعرفة والإبداع والحكايات.

وللعالم العربي، لا تمثّل هذه الاستضافة مجرد محطة أولى، بل فصلاً جديداً في مسيرة أدب الطفل واليافعين على الساحة العالمية.

At school, children learn from more than books. They also find stories that reflect their feelings and experiences, helping them understand themselves and the people around them.

In this post, we share three stories set around school life, from first-day worries to making friends, welcoming others, and building confidence as young readers.

Each story explores a different part of the school experience, giving children something they can relate to and a space to talk about their own feelings and experiences.

Choose a story to read together, then ask: How did it make you feel? What did you enjoy? Which character did you like most?

في المدرسة، لا يتعلّم الأطفال من الكتب فقط، بل يجدون فيها حكايات تشبه مشاعرهم وتجاربهم، وتساعدهم على فهم أنفسهم والآخرين من حولهم.

نشارككم ثلاث حكايات تدور حول عالم المدرسة، من مشاعر القلق في اليوم الأول، إلى تكوين الصداقات وتقبّل الآخرين، وصولاً إلى قصص تساعد القرّاء الصغار على بناء ثقتهم والاقتراب من القراءة باللغة العربية.

لكل حكاية زاوية مختلفة، ولكل طفل تجربة خاصة قد يجد فيها شيئاً يشبهه أو يفتح أمامه مساحة للحديث والتعبير.

اختاروا حكاية واقرؤوها مع أطفالكم، ثم اسألوهم: ماذا شعرتم؟ ماذا أعجبكم؟ ومن الشخصية التي أحببتموها أكثر؟
