The Folktales Reimagined – Polish Edition exhibition opened at the National Library of Poland in collaboration with the Polish Section of IBBY, showcasing the artworks of the project's seventh edition, on the sidelines of the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026, continuing the journey of stories between the UAE and Poland through art.

The exhibition brings together folktales from both countries, with Emirati artists creating works inspired by Polish stories, while Polish artists present Emirati folktales through their own artistic styles, revealing how the same story can be told in different ways.

This experience highlights the power of stories to bring cultures closer together and create new spaces for dialogue, exchange, and inspiration.

افتُتح في المكتبة الوطنية البولندية، معرض «الخراريف برؤية جديدة – النسخة البولندية» بالتعاون مع المجلس البولندي لكتب اليافعين، حيث عُرضت أعمال النسخة السابعة من المشروع، وذلك على هامش معرض وارسو الدولي للكتاب 2026، لتواصل الحكايات رحلتها بين الإمارات وبولندا عبر الفن.

يجمع المعرض حكايات شعبية من البلدين، حيث قدّم فنانون إماراتيون أعمالاً مستوحاة من الحكايات البولندية، فيما أعاد فنانون بولنديون تقديم الحكايات الإماراتية بأساليبهم الفنية الخاصة، لتكشف الأعمال كيف يمكن للحكاية الواحدة أن تُروى بطرق مختلفة.

وتؤكد هذه التجربة أن الحكايات قادرة دائماً على التقريب بين الثقافات، وفتح مساحات جديدة للتبادل والحوار والإلهام.

In the heart of Poland, a country known for its rich literary and cultural heritage, and amidst the vibrant atmosphere of Warsaw during the book fair, where readers, publishers, authors, and illustrators gather from around the world, UAEBBY participated in the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026 as part of Sharjah’s Guest of Honour programme.

From the Sharjah Pavilion, and in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority, Founder and Honorary President of UAEBBY, the board presented a range of initiatives that reflect its belief in the power of stories to build bridges between cultures and foster dialogue through children’s literature and visual storytelling.

The participation featured the seventh edition of Folktales Reimagined – Polish Edition, which reinterprets Emirati and Polish folktales through contemporary artistic perspectives, alongside an exhibition of silent books from the region that allow images to tell stories beyond the limits of language.

The fair also provided an opportunity to connect with authors, illustrators, and children's literature specialists, exchanging ideas on the role of stories in bringing people together and inspiring new generations.

Because stories, wherever they come from, have the power to connect us through our shared humanity.

في قلب بولندا، البلد الذي يعتز بإرثه الأدبي والثقافي الغني، وبين أجواء وارسو النابضة بالحياة خلال أيام معرض الكتاب، حيث تمتلئ القاعات بالقرّاء والناشرين والكتّاب والرسامين من مختلف أنحاء العالم، شارك المجلس الإماراتي لكتب اليافعين في معرض وارسو الدولي للكتاب 2026 ضمن مشاركة الشارقة كضيف شرف المعرض.

ومن جناح الشارقة، وبحضور سمو الشيخة بدور بنت سلطان القاسمي، رئيسة مجلس إدارة هيئة الشارقة للكتاب، المؤسسة والرئيسة الفخرية للمجلس الإماراتي لكتب اليافعين، قدّم المجلس مجموعة من المبادرات التي تعكس إيمانه بقوة الحكايات في بناء جسور بين الثقافات، وتعزيز الحوار من خلال أدب الطفل والفنون البصرية.

وشهدت المشاركة عرض النسخة السابعة من مشروع «الخراريف برؤية جديدة – النسخة البولندية»، الذي يعيد تخيّل الحكايات الشعبية الإماراتية والبولندية من خلال رؤى فنية معاصرة، إلى جانب معرض للكتب الصامتة من المنطقة، والتي تتيح للصور أن تروي الحكايات وتتجاوز حدود اللغة لتصل إلى القرّاء من مختلف الخلفيات والثقافات.

كما شكّلت المشاركة مساحة للقاء الكتّاب والرسامين والمهتمين بأدب الطفل، ولتبادل الأفكار والخبرات حول دور الحكايات في التقريب بين الشعوب وإلهام الأجيال الجديدة.

لأن الحكايات، مهما اختلفت لغاتها وأماكنها، تظل قادرة على أن تجمعنا حول إنسانيتنا المشتركة.

At the open-air Main Stage of the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026, traditional stories met contemporary art in a visual dialogue that brought together heritage, imagination, and cultural exchange.

During the panel discussion Folktales Reimagined: When Illustration Becomes Cultural Dialogue, speakers explored how folktales can be reinterpreted through contemporary illustration while preserving their cultural roots and enduring relevance.

The session spotlighted the seventh edition of Folktales Reimagined – Polish Edition, which brings together Emirati and Polish folktales through contemporary artistic interpretations that create new opportunities for dialogue and cultural exchange.

وخلال الجلسة الحوارية «الخراريف برؤية جديدة: حين يتحول الرسم إلى حوار بين الثقافات»، استكشف المشاركون كيف يمكن للفن والسرد البصري أن يعيدا تقديم الحكايات الشعبية برؤى معاصرة، مع الحفاظ على روحها وجذورها الثقافية.

During the panel discussion Stories That Heal: Bibliotherapy in Children's Literature, speakers explored how stories can support emotional wellbeing and resilience among children and young adults, helping them navigate emotions and life experiences.

The discussion examined the role of literature in addressing themes such as fear, grief, belonging, and identity, highlighting how children's books can foster empathy, human connection, and safe spaces for reflection and growth.

في جناح الشارقة، ضيف شرف معرض وارسو الدولي للكتاب 2026، اجتمع المشاركون حول الحكايات التي تتجاوز دورها التقليدي لتصبح مساحة للفهم والتعاطف والاحتواء.

وخلال الجلسة الحوارية «حكايات تُداوي: القراءة العلاجية في أدب الطفل»، ناقش المتحدثون كيف يمكن للقصص أن تدعم الصحة النفسية والمرونة العاطفية لدى الأطفال واليافعين، وأن تساعدهم على فهم مشاعرهم والتعامل مع تجاربهم الإنسانية المختلفة.

ضمن مشاركتنا في معرض وارسو الدولي للكتاب، ناقشت جلسة «قوة الصمت: عندما تروي الرسومات الحكاية» الأثر العالمي للكتب الصامتة، وقدرتها على تجاوز حدود اللغة، وتعزيز الشمولية، وإتاحة القصص للجميع.

كما سلطت الجلسة الضوء على أهمية الكتب الصامتة ودورها في بناء جسور التواصل الإنساني بين الثقافات واللغات.

As part of our participation in the Warsaw International Book Fair, the panel discussion “The Power of Silence: When Illustrations Tell the Story” explored the global impact of Silent Books and their ability to transcend language barriers, foster inclusivity, and make storytelling accessible to all.

At the Warsaw International Book Fair 2026, where stories from around the world come together, UAEBBY is organising a series of panel discussions celebrating children’s literature, visual storytelling, and stories across cultures, bringing together authors, illustrators, and specialists from the UAE and Poland.

The sessions explore topics ranging from the power of silent books and their ability to transcend language and connect readers, to the role of stories in supporting emotional wellbeing and human connection, as well as reimagining folktales through contemporary illustration and visual storytelling.

These conversations reflect how books, illustration, and storytelling can become spaces for cultural exchange, imagination, and connection between children and young readers around the world.
