A new school year brings backpacks back to desks, colour back to notebooks, and a fresh start filled with learning, discovery, and new memories.

In this artwork, Emirati artist Naama Al Awadhi captures the many moods of going back to school through a playful scene filled with familiar classroom moments, subjects, and expressive characters.

Drawing on her love of manga and anime, Naama brings her own visual touch to everyday school life, turning familiar moments into a world that speaks to the imagination of children and young adults.

Wishing all students a school year filled with learning, creativity, and success. ✨

مع بداية عام دراسي جديد، تعود الحقائب إلى المقاعد، والألوان إلى الدفاتر، وتبدأ معها أيام جديدة مليئة بالتعلّم والاكتشاف واللحظات التي تصنع ذكريات المدرسة.

في هذا العمل، تأخذنا الفنانة الإماراتية ناعمة العوضي إلى أجواء العودة إلى المدرسة بأسلوب مرح ومليء بالتفاصيل، تجمع فيه بين الفصل الدراسي والمواد المختلفة والشخصيات التي تعبّر بطريقتها الخاصة عن مشاعر ومواقف يعرفها كل طالب.

وبأسلوبها المستلهم من عالم المانغا والأنمي، تضيف ناعمة لمستها الخاصة إلى هذه اللحظات اليومية، وتحولها إلى مشهد بصري قريب من عالم الأطفال واليافعين وخيالهم.

نتمنى لجميع الطلبة عاماً دراسياً مليئاً بالتعلّم والإبداع والنجاح.✨

في يوم المرأة الإماراتية، نحتفي بأصواتٍ من أجيال مختلفة، لكلٍ منها تجربتها ونظرتها الخاصة، تجمعهن قيمٌ راسخة، وطموحٌ يمتد إلى المستقبل، وإيمانٌ بأننا نصبح أقوى حين نتشارك المعرفة، ونفتح الطريق لمن بعدنا ليصلوا إلى أبعد.

On the occasion of the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday, families come together around stories, passing his life and teachings from one generation to the next and reflecting on the values of compassion and kindness.

In this artwork, Omani illustrator and author Ibtihaj Al Harthi captures a warm family gathering, with a grandmother and children gathered around a book, surrounded by festive decorations and details inspired by local heritage. The scene brings together storytelling, memory, and the spirit of the occasion.

Inspired by childhood memories of Omani villages, Ibtihaj blends imagination, folklore, and local heritage in her work, creating stories and illustrations rooted in a strong sense of place and culture.

في ذكرى المولد النبوي الشريف، تجتمع العائلة حول الحكايات، وتبقى سيرة النبي محمد ﷺ حاضرةً في الذاكرة، تتناقلها الأجيال بمحبة، وتستحضر منها معاني الرحمة والخير.

في هذا العمل، تأخذنا الرسامة والمؤلفة العُمانية ابتهاج الحارثي إلى مشهد عائلي دافئ، حيث تجتمع الجدة والأطفال حول الكتاب، وسط زينة تحمل اسم النبي محمد ﷺ وتفاصيل تستلهم أجواء البيوت والتراث المحلي، في لوحة تجمع بين الحكاية والذاكرة والاحتفاء بالمناسبة.

وتستمد ابتهاج الكثير من عالمها البصري من ذكريات الطفولة في القرى العُمانية، وتمزج في أعمالها بين الخيال والحكايات الشعبية والتراث، لتقدّم قصصاً ورسومات تحمل تفاصيل المكان وتقرّبها من عالم الطفل.

When an Arabic story becomes part of a global collection spanning more than 40 languages, it carries experiences and perspectives that deserve to be discovered by readers around the world.

The IBBY Collection for Young People with Disabilities highlights outstanding books that support accessible reading and represent a wide range of characters and experiences. The global collection is housed at Toronto Public Library.

We celebrate Noor and When My Friend Got Sick as part of this collection of more than 4,000 books.

Noor, published by Kalimat Group in the UAE, celebrates different abilities while highlighting family support, confidence, and achievement. When My Friend Got Sick, published by Yuki Press in Lebanon, explores illness, friendship, and hope through a compassionate story for young readers. The book was also shortlisted for the International Award for Arabic Children's Literature, formerly the Etisalat Award for Arabic Children's Literature.

Their place in this collection brings Arabic stories to a wider readership while contributing to more diverse and inclusive children's literature.

حين تصل الحكاية العربية إلى مجموعة عالمية تضم كتباً من أكثر من 40 لغة، فإنها تحمل معها تجارب وأصواتاً تستحق أن يكتشفها القرّاء من مختلف أنحاء العالم.

تسلّط قائمة المجلس الدولي لكتب اليافعين لليافعين ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة، الضوء على كتب متميّزة تعزز إمكانية الوصول إلى القراءة، وتقدّم شخصيات وتجارب متنوعة، ضمن مجموعة عالمية تحتضنها مكتبة تورونتو العامة.

ونحتفي بوجود كتابَي «نور» و«عندما مرضت صديقتي» ضمن هذه المجموعة التي تضم أكثر من 4,000 كتاب.

صدر كتاب «نور» عن مجموعة كلمات في دولة الإمارات، ويقدّم حكاية تحتفي باختلاف القدرات، وبأهمية دعم الأسرة والثقة بالطفل وإنجازاته. أما «عندما مرضت صديقتي»، الصادر عن دار يوكي برس في لبنان. فيتناول المرض والصداقة والأمل من منظور إنساني قريب من الطفل، وقد وصل الكتاب إلى القائمة القصيرة للجائزة الدولية لأدب الطفل العربي، المعروفة سابقاً بجائزة اتصالات لكتاب الطفل.

وجود هاتين الحكايتين العربيتين ضمن المجموعة يفتح مساحة أوسع أمام قصصنا للوصول إلى قرّاء جدد، والمساهمة في أدب طفل أكثر تنوعاً وشمولاً.

يسرّنا الإعلان عن تعاون جديد بين المجلس الإماراتي لكتب اليافعين ومجلة Bookbird، المجلة العلمية الدولية التابعة للمجلس الدولي لكتب اليافعين (IBBY)، والتي انطلقت عام 1957.

بموجب هذه الشراكة، ستتم ترجمة ونشر مجموعة مختارة من مقالات Bookbird باللغة العربية، لإتاحة المعرفة والأبحاث العالمية أمام القارئ العربي وإثراء المحتوى المتخصص في أدب الأطفال واليافعين.

خطوة جديدة لبناء جسور المعرفة بين العالم والقارئ العربي.

We are pleased to announce a new collaboration between the UAE Board on Books for Young People (UAEBBY) and Bookbird, IBBY’s international scholarly journal, established in 1957.

Through this partnership, a selection of Bookbird articles will be translated and published in Arabic, expanding access to international research and enriching Arabic-language resources in children’s and young adult literature.

A new bridge connecting global knowledge with Arabic readers.
