Established in year 1990, the formation of “Texmas” in the middle of the last decade was itself a landmark development for the textile trade in the UAE. “Texmas” offers its members in the UAE a platform to interface with the local government and i
ts relevant bodies to enable bilateral cooperation to enhance and improve the reach of the textile trade industry. “Texmas” consists of 460 member organizations and collectively represent a trade network across more than 45 countries. In year 2010, it was estimated that textile trade in the UAE was valued at AED 12 billion. The organization’s mandate and responsibility lies in enhancing and improving the smooth and steady flow of business in the trade, offering services such as Arbitration Services- assisting its members to resolve disputes amicably, acting as the link between the Trade and Government, and redressing the various problems of its members. As part of its mission to improve its services to its members, “Texmas” in year 2006 completed a massive facility development project, “Dubai Textile City”, offering a state-of-the-art operational facility exclusively for its members. Offering warehousing, showroom and office space, dedicated Dubai Customs and Immigration Services (JAFZA), “Dubai Textile City” is the embodiment of Texmas’s mission to facilitate and support its members. In April 2012, in recognition of Texmas's accomplishments and dedication, the Dubai Customs Authority presented the organization with the “We Shine through You” Award for Texmas’s high standards of support in facilitating relationships and operations between its members and Dubai Customs. The Textile Merchants Group continues to strive to improve its services and the standards of quality within the textile trade industry by focusing on the exploration of new markets for the trade and generating new ideas and policies for improving the business environment. It is an ongoing mandate for “Texmas”, to build and develop relationships with trading nations especially with textile producing countries to work together and to enhance bilateral cooperation in the mutual benefit of those countries and Texmas’s members. Texmas represents the modern vision of Dubai which has been time and again emphasised by the Rulers of the country and in particular His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai and Prime Minister and Vice President of the UAE. The establishment of the Group, which was the first in a series of trade associations that came into existence in Dubai during the course of the early '90s and now, marked the first step towards organising the local textile trade. The creation of Texmas by the visionaries in the trade was mostly mission oriented and the Group today has been vested with the responsibility of enhancing and improving the textile trade in and around Dubai. While the initial focus of the Group was to mainly ensure smooth and steady flow of business in the trade, Texmas has, over the years, identified various other areas to contribute its bit for the trade. And chief among these have been settling disputes among or between members amicably, acting as the link between the trade and the government and redressing the various problems of its members. Texmas today also has the responsibility of exploring new markets for the trade apart from generating ideas for improving the business environment as a whole.
