nt and most importantly funds locally-based research into the epidemiology of breast cancer in the UAE and the region. This partnership serves as a catalyst to the Al Jalila Foundation vision to place the UAE at the forefront of medical innovation and ultimately transform lives. Brest Friends was established in 2005, by Dr Houriya Kazim, the first female surgeon in the UAE. The breast cancer support group was initially aimed at raising money for education and awareness and has today grown to also provide financial support to patients in need. However, many women with breast cancer gain a lot of benefits from joining the support group. Women in the support group can expect to both learn more about their cancer, and get new ideas from others who have "been there, done that." Cancer survivors help new patients know what to expect and what situations to avoid. Sometimes only the cancer survivor will have that perfect little “tip” that ends up making a big difference in how you get through the cancer experience. New group members usually feel more comfortable over time in discussing their concerns and women diagnosed a while ago feel good about helping others in the group.
