Have you experienced how tuned your autistic child is to your state.

How they mirror our nervous system- has this happened to you?

Imagine doing any work with that kind of energy.

It’s exhausting trying to catch up when you know you are always lagging behind- no matter what.

This energy helps no one.

Comment SWITCH to unlock that mountain of energy.

Bringing focus to the midfield is hard for our children.

A lot of educators misinterpret this as stubborn behaviour even worse refusal or task avoidance.

So instead of shifting our focus and finding ways for them to access education while honouring their differences we rush quickly to label.

Imagine what this does to an already struggling child’s self worth.

Can our children notice our stress?

They absolutely can - we are in their space and them ours. If the mere thought of working or spending time with them drains us then that is energy they pick up.

If you want to work on creating the right environment

The debate to label what Autism has caused more restrictions than opened doors for individuals on the spectrum. We are quick to put them in a box with a label.
1. Who is the child underneath that label
2. How can we give a meaningful education
3. How can they access environments where they can grow

We are seldom looking for solutions rather more focused on the challenges the label brings.

Next time you see a child on the spectrum try looking beyond that label- try building an environment where they feel respected and honoured for who they are rather than kids who are ‘different , slow , disabled…behind.

Picky Eating is a sensory experience but what can shape our relationship with food is the association we develop with it.
If eating food becomes an issue in the house- the child may view it as something to be afraid of, something negative and instead pf benefiting the body- the body rejects it as something unsafe.

The last thing an autistic child (much like neuro typicals ) want to hear in the midst of a meltdown is to STOP or CALM DOWN.

If you are working in academics with your autistic child while not helping them with impulse control, task initiation, task completion and cognitive flexibility you are left with ONLY managing behaviours no academic progress.

Comment ROADMAP if that is where you are and you want to change it.
