Awareness Campaign Through Infographics and Video Education: ACTIVE 05: May is National Electrical Safety Month

⚡ ELECTRICAL SAFETY: PROPER USE OF EXTENSION CORDS ⚡

Extension cords provide convenience, but improper use can lead to overheating, electrical shock, and fire hazards.

Stay safe by following these important reminders:

🔌 Use extension cords only for temporary applications
⚠️ Never overload extension cords or power strips
🔥 Avoid connecting multiple extension cords together (“daisy chaining”)
💧 Keep cords away from water, heat, and flammable materials
🛠️ Regularly inspect cords for cuts, exposed wires, or damage
🚫 Do not place cords under carpets, doors, or walkways
👷 Use only certified and properly rated extension cords for the intended load

Remember: An overloaded or damaged extension cord can become a serious fire risk.

Practice safe electrical habits and always prioritize safety at home and in the workplace.

⚡ ELECTRICAL SAFETY AT THE WORKPLACE ⚡

Electricity powers our workplaces, but unsafe practices can lead to serious injuries, equipment damage, fire incidents, and even loss of life.

As we continue to promote a culture of safety, let us remember these important workplace electrical safety reminders:

🔌 Inspect electrical tools and equipment regularly
⚠️ Avoid overloading outlets and extension cords
🧰 Use proper PPE and insulated tools when working on electrical systems
🚫 Never perform electrical work without proper authorization and competency
👷 Always consult qualified and licensed electrical practitioners
🔥 Report damaged wires, overheating equipment, and electrical hazards immediately

Safety is not just a requirement — it is everyone’s responsibility.

Let us work together to maintain a safe, hazard-free, and electrically compliant workplace environment.

⚡ Electrical Safety Awareness: Solar PV System Safety ⚡

With the increasing demand for rooftop solar installations driven by rising fuel and energy costs, it is important to strengthen our awareness of Solar PV electrical safety.

While solar energy provides sustainable and cost-efficient power, PV systems also introduce unique electrical hazards that must be properly understood during pre-incident planning and emergency response operations.

☀️ Key Safety Considerations:
🔸 PV systems remain energized when exposed to sunlight
🔸 Electrical shock and arc flash hazards may still exist even during power outages
🔸 Improper installation and maintenance can increase fire risks
🔸 Emergency responders must identify PV components and isolation points before intervention

👷‍♂️ Safety starts with awareness, proper design, qualified installation, and compliance with electrical standards.

As we observe Electrical Safety Month this May, let us continue promoting safe practices and responsible use of renewable energy technologies. Please share this to save lives!

Awareness Campaign Through Infographics and Video Education (ACTIVE Project) - Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI)

GFCIs are electrical safety devices that trip electrical circuits when they detect ground faults or leakage currents. A person who becomes part of a path for leakage current will be severely shocked or electrocuted. These outlets prevent deadly shock by quickly shutting off power to the circuit if the electricity flowing into the circuit differs by even a slight amount from that returning.
A GFCI should be used in any indoor or outdoor area where water may come into contact with electrical products. The Philippine Electrical Code currently requires its provision under Article 2.10.8 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel. The ground-fault circuit interrupter shall be installed integrated with the receptacle (GFCI receptacle). In lieu of the GFCI receptacle(s), a branch circuit supplying 15- and 20- ampere receptacles shall be permitted to be protected by ground-fault circuit breaker.
