Fluorescent paint became more than a material for Makki. Combined with UV-A light, it transforms the surface of the canvas, making colour appear luminous, dimensional and almost otherworldly.

Neveen Abu Samra is a Palestinian-Polish designer and visual artist based in Dubai.

Working with everyday and discarded materials, Neveen explores how objects can hold memories, stories, and traces of human experience. Through layered compositions, textures, and abstract forms, she looks at how everyday objects and familiar rituals can hold personal memories and connections to home, culture, and the past.

We’re delighted to announce 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗳𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗯𝗼𝘅, an upcoming exhibition by Emirati artist, author, and curator 𝘙𝘦𝘦𝘮 𝘈𝘭 𝘔𝘶𝘣𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘬, curated by 𝘈𝘻𝘻𝘢 𝘈𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘢𝘮. ✨

In this exhibition, memory becomes material: what stays, what fades, and what changes with time.

Through play and experimentation, Reem returns to lived experiences, reimagining them through the distance of memory and blurring the line between what is real and what is imagined.

Familiar forms become fragments of what was, what remains, and what may only be remembered that way.
